Maize crops turning yellow?
Friday, August 10, 2012
In the past two weeks at long last, most maize crops have started to grow away and whilst they will not be the best crops in the world, they will give reasonable yields. However, there are exceptions and worryingly these seem to be increasing in some areas, previously green crops are now starting to go yellow.
Whilst crops will yellow up in periods of rapid growth when they temporarily run out of nutrients, they will normally soon recover and green up as the roots find some more. This year though, it does seem a bit different, with some crops yellowing up and not recovering.
